Firing in Nagaland: Assam Rifles 'deeply remorseful' over Nagaland incident, statement

 



Assam Rifles issued a statement on the shooting incident in Nagaland. The statement said the force was "deeply sorry" for the incident. At least 12 villagers were killed in the firing on Saturday evening. A high-level investigation has been ordered, the force said in a statement. It has also been informed that legal action will be taken against the culprits based on the investigation.


Several villagers were killed in Assam Rifles firing on Saturday. Their bodies were recovered from a truck. The force said in a statement that one soldier was killed in the incident. Several army personnel was also injured.


The statement further said, "Army personnel raided the village of Oting to catch the terrorists after receiving information from reliable intelligence sources." A high-level investigative team has been formed to investigate.


Thirteen villagers and a soldier were killed in an Indo-Myanmar border district in Nagaland as a counter-insurgency operation went awry on Saturday, sources said. Union minister Amit Shah said a Special Investigation Team will probe the matter.
