Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui is yet another Trademark Ayushmanm Khurrana film that takes you on an entertaining ride revolving around a sensitive topic and delivers an impactful message. It's a complete package of drama, romance, emotion, and Laughter that keeps you hooked throughout its duration and makes its desired impact as well.
The story of the film revolves around a Bodybuilding Man Mannu who falls in love with the Zumba Teacher Maanvi only to realize that she's a trans woman and all that follows next is the main plot of the film. The screenplay of the film is sincere as well as entertaining that stays on its main topic ( except a few things here and there ) and keeps you invested in the story.
There is a lot of films made on Gender identity recently but Abhishek Kapoor's Film comes out differently & makes the maximum impact. Mainly due to a few reasons - Firstly the film takes itself seriously and there are very few cliches used, unlike the previous films. Maanvi's character has not been thrown like a truth bomb after half of the film but you get to know her right from her first scene. Abhishek even explores the depth in her character and shows every possible detail about her life. Secondly, the film doesn't shy away from showing the transphobia that's actually present around us in reality. The film even showed the procedure of sex change operation in one of its scenes. The point here is The director knows what he's trying to show and tries to present it as raw as possible.
Ayushmann Khurana has done it yet again and delivered another outstanding performance. Vaani Kapoor comes out as a surprise and finally got a full-fledged role where she can show her talent and she has done a pretty well job as well.
The music of the film is about okay - okay and goes fine with the narrative. The dialogues are good at places but some cliches are still out there. The film obviously has taken the commercial route so there are things that have been added for some laughs and entertainment, some of them worked but the drama created around Ayushmann's family seems unnecessary and forced to me. The pace and duration of the film are another Plus Point.
