Rafael Nadal has emerged as the winner of Australian Open 2022. He defeated Daniel Medvedev of Russia in an epic 5 hour long final on Sunday evening. With this victory, he now has 21 Grand Slam titles, the most by any men in the history of world tennis.
Sixth seeded Nadal used all his experience in defeating second seeded Daniel Medvedev in Australian Open 2022 men's singles final at the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday. The final scoreline in the five set thriller read 2-6, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.
Initially, Medvedev won first two sets in his own superb style. But, Nadal made an epic comeback by winning third and fourth sets consecutively. The fifth set was a cliffhanger, wherein both Nadal and Medvedev put every ounce of their effort in winning. But, in the end Rafael Nadal won the set with a score of 7-5, hence taking away the coveted trophy.
This is the second time that Rafael Nadal has won Australian Open in his illustrious career. First time, he won Rod Laver tournament in the year 2009. Since then he has lost two finals here. But, this time none could defeat his will power and urge to fight.
Nadal also became the 4th men in the world tennis to win every grand slam at least twice. This win takes his tally of total grand slam titles to 21, which is one more than the other two greats, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, both of whom are tied at 20.
