VK Tripathi has been named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Indian Railway Board. He is currently the general manager of Gorakhpur's North-Eastern Railway.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has confirmed Tripathi's appointment, and he is currently the General Manager of the North-Eastern Railway. Suneet Sharma, an IRSME officer from the 1982 class, will be replaced by him.
Tripathi, a career railway officer, earned his B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) from Roorkee and joined the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) in 1983.
His first job was with the Northern Railway as an assistant electrical engineer.
Tripathi has held crucial positions such as divisional railway manager, North Central Railway, Allahabad; chief electrical locomotive engineer, extra general manager, Western Railway; and additional member/traction in the Railway Board.
He has completed advanced management training programs in both Switzerland and the United States.
Tripathi was also instrumental in the commissioning and indigenization of state-of-the-art three-phase locomotives, which are currently the workhorses of the Indian Railways.
