China : Man steals Rs 18 lakhs using his ex-girlfriend's Smartphone jailed | Trending News

A man in China has been jailed after he reportedly stole Rs 18 lakhs from his ex-girlfriend while she was asleep. The theft was done in a very unconventional way.

According to reports, a 28-year-old man named Huang from Nanning, China lifted his ex-partner's eyelids while she was asleep to gain access to her smartphone using facial recognition. He then used her fingerprints to unlock her Huawei device and gain access to her accounts before transferring a big amount. The incident took place in December 2020, according to a report by The Times.

He was able to access the woman's Alipay payment platform by using the phone's facial and fingerprint recognition features. It all happened when the woman, identified by her family name Dong, dozed off after reportedly being served dinner with cold medicine.

Local news outlets reported that the man used the stolen money to clear off huge gambling debts that he had racked up over the years. The theft came to the notice of Dong when she received a message from her bank the next morning informing her of the huge transfer.

Huang was arrested by the police a few months after the incident. He has now been found guilty of theft and sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison, reported LadBible.

That's not all of his woes. He must also pay a fine of 20,000 yuan.
